(Location) The History Graduate Student Association (HGSA) at the
University of Ottawa proudly announces the 7th annual Pierre Savard
History Conference, to be held April 13- 15, 2011. The conference presents
innovative and exciting research from graduate students across the
province on a wide variety of historical topics

This bilingual conference is free to the public. Panels run all day
Thursday and Friday with Keynote presentations on Wednesday night and
Thursday afternoon. This year’s keynote speakers are Dr. Éric Bédard
(TELUQ-UQÀM) on April 13, 2011, Dr. Béatrice Craig (uOttawa) on April 14,
2011 and Dr. Carolyn Podruchny (York U) on April 15, 2011.

The conference offers a unique opportunity for graduate students to
present their inventive research to members of the community. This allows
for greater interaction between the university and wider communities. The
HGSA believes that this interaction is essential to promote the importance
of historical knowledge in the 21st century.

Dr. Pierre Savard (1936-1998) was a distinguished scholar who served as
Chair of the Department of History at the University of Ottawa. His 229
publications are evidence of his devotion to Canadian history. In
addition, he was a dedicated educator who constantly supported and
encouraged his students. The HGSA is proud to honour his tradition through
this annual conference.

The HGSA represents the history graduate students at the University of
Ottawa. It is committed to maintaining a bilingual and collegial
atmosphere. Apart from the Pierre Savard Conference, the HGSA hosts a
variety of academic and social events throughout the year. For further
