  • Sandy Hill History

    During the nineteenth century and early twentieth century the neighbourhood of Sandy Hill was one of Ottawa\\\'s wealthiest. The land was originally the estate of Louis-Théodore Besserer, who donated most of it to the University of Ottawa. When Ottawa became Canada\\\'s capital, Sandy Hill became home to public servants and to the Prime Minister.

    Sandy Hill is located east of downtown Ottawa and is bordered by the Rideau River on the east, the Rideau Canal on west, the Queensway highway and Nicholas Street to the south and the beautiful Byward Market to the north.
